Goldberg Sensei presently holds the rank of Go-Dan (5th degree black belt) in Aikido and began practice in 1987. Mr. Goldberg spent three-and-a-half years in Japan studying with some of Morihei Ueshiba's most enduring and prolific disciples. He founded the dojo in 2000, and has been the Chief Instructor of UCSD's Aikido program since 1998. Goldberg Sensei holds a BA in Philosophy, an MA in Teaching, and is a certificated holistic health practitioner (HHP). He served on academic faculties in the US and Japan for nine years before teaching and studying Aikido full-time.
Goldberg Sensei's interest in Aikido is on approaching the art as an instrument for empowered, transformational, and gratifying movement through life. This is expressed in how he transmits classical technique, which creates an engaging and dimensional environment for students to follow their own path of Mastery.
In addition to teaching a full schedule of Aikido classes, Sensei also offers special sessions for individuals and small groups. He also co-facilitates a team-building workshop called The Samurai Spirit. It's for corporate/work teams interested in adventurous ways to improve their teamwork, engagement, and sense of purpose and identity in their group.
